Tailored Solutions
The shipbuilding industry encompasses a wide range of applications, each requiring specific bending capabilities.
Cargo Ships & Oil Tankers
Navy Ships & Fishing Boats
Standard width rolls (3 to 6 m / 10 to 20 ft) are equipped with accessories like overhead and side supports to manage the peculiar shapes of the plates.
Submarines
Built with high-resistance materials, these require heavy-duty machines. Our solutions can handle plate thicknesses up to 120 mm (5") and can be oriented vertically.
Pontoons
4-roll MCA solutions for thin plates (2 up to 3 mm / 14 Ga up to 1/8") and aluminum alloys (5052), ensuring perfect roundness for internal diameters starting from 400 mm (16").
MAV SHB
The Giant for Shipbuilding Geometry
For highly specific components, a 3-roll variable axis plate roll with a customized geometry. This system is based on a "press-roll" design where the top roll acts like a press brake punch.
- Variable Roll Geometry: Independent movement of the side rolls allows for faster and easier forming of complex radii.
- Anti-Deflection Technology: Dedicated geometry and back-up rolls compensate for roll deflection, ensuring accuracy across very long spans (up to 24,000 mm / 78.7 ft).

Shipbuilding
Submarine construction demands the forming of thick, high-resistance materials (like HY-100 steel) while maintaining strict cylindrical tolerances for deep-sea structural integrity. Davi addresses this challenge with customized, heavy-duty 3-roll variable axis machines (MAV series) configured vertically to simplify material handling[cite: 1, 5]. Engineered with full mechanical and hydraulic symmetry, these machines distribute pressing forces evenly across the plate ends. This design minimizes structural deflection and delivers the extreme tonnage required to roll plates up to 120 mm (5") thick with precise geometric repeatability.
Rolling plates up to 24 m (78.7 ft) wide for large commercial vessels presents a major challenge: machine roll deflection, which causes inconsistent bending radii across the plate’s span. To solve this, Davi engineered the MAV SHB, a customized 3-roll variable axis machine utilizing a "press-roll" geometry supported by dedicated anti-deflection back-up rolls. Additionally, our 3-roll and 4-roll systems can be equipped with heavy-duty overhead and lateral hydraulic supports to manage the massive, sweeping shapes of these hull plates and prevent them from collapsing under their own weight.
Bending the asymmetrical profiles used in deck stiffening—such as single and double bulb flats—typically risks twisting, buckling, or surface damage to the material. Davi MCP 3-roll double pinch angle rolls feature universal, heat-treated, and deep-hardened rolls designed to handle extreme wear in shipyard environments. To prevent profile deformation, the machines utilize a specialized "all-rolls-drive" system with three independent hydraulic motors paired with the patented iRoll Camera System. This system provides real-time digital templates to continuously monitor bending accuracy.
