Crowning

Fabricators must prevent "barrel effect" or "hourglass" distortion across the width of a rolled plate to ensure proper assembly fitment. Crowning is a subtle, precise convex profile machined into the center of a roll to counteract the physical deflection that occurs when the roll is subjected to heavy forming loads. It ensures completely uniform pressure distribution across the entire width of the plate, guaranteeing consistent tolerances from edge to edge. Davi custom-engineers roll crowning profiles based on specific customer material mixes to optimize precision.
"Barrel" defects (where the center diameter is larger than the ends) and "reel" or hourglass defects (where the center diameter is smaller) are caused by unequal pressure distribution along the plate width during rolling. Davi resolves these issues through:

- Servo-Tronic Parallelism: Dual hydraulic and electronic controls that keep rolls parallel under unbalanced loads.
