Story overview

Saad Ali Alessa Metal Industries Company (SAMIF) is a specialized heavy steel manufacturer with headquarters in Ad Dammam and activities all over the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. For their operations, rolling machines are obviously essential, especially when it comes to pressure vessels and tanks manufacturing

The Challenge

Navigating Extreme Thicknesses and Complex Bending Demands

Specialized heavy steel fabrication demands a rare combination of extreme power, absolute precision, and process versatility. For Saad Ali Alessa Metal Industries Company (SAMIF), headquartered in Ad Dammam, Saudi Arabia, this challenge is a daily reality. Operating across the Middle East, SAMIF delivers critical components for highly demanding sectors, including Oil & Gas, Power Energy & Water, Petro-Chemical & Fertilizer, Mining, Infrastructure, and the emerging Onshore Wind Energy market.

To maintain their position as a leading heavy steel manufacturer, SAMIF needed a production setup capable of forming everything from structural profiles and angle sections to thick-walled pressure vessels and heavy utility tanks. The primary technical bottleneck lay in finding a rolling partner that could handle extreme plate thicknesses—which require massive bending forces—while simultaneously guaranteeing tight tolerances, minimal ovality, and rapid production cycles on lighter, repeatable runs.

The Solution

A Highly Tailored, Multi-Machine Davi Fleet

To address SAMIF’s diverse manufacturing requirements, Davi engineered a comprehensive fleet solution combining three distinct rolling technologies, each optimized for specific manufacturing strategies:

  • The Heavyweight Champion (Davi MAV): For heavy-duty plate rolling and thick-walled pressure vessels, SAMIF utilizes a Davi MAV 3-roll variable-axis plate bending machine with a capacity of 3,000 mm (118") in width and 210 mm (8.26") in thickness. The MAV’s variable-axis design allows for individual horizontal movement of the side rolls and vertical movement of the top roll, providing the ultimate flexibility to adjust geometry based on plate thickness.
  • The Productivity Engine (Davi MCB): For repeatable, high-output production, SAMIF relies on a Davi MCB 4-roll plate bending machine with a capacity of 3,000 mm (118") in width and 75 mm (2.95") in thickness. The MCB's 4-roll system permanently clamps the plate between the top and bottom rolls, facilitating fully automated CNC-controlled runs and minimizing reliance on operator skill.
  • The Profile Masters (Davi MCP): To manage structural section bending, SAMIF integrated two Davi MCP 3-roll double-pinch angle roll machines. Featuring three independent motorized rolls as standard, the MCP machines provide optimal torque transmission without the risk of profile slippage.

The Results

Flawless Geometry with Minimal Ovality

The mechanical and hydraulic symmetry of the Davi MAV ensures an perfectly even load distribution along the plate during pre-bending and rolling. This eliminates structural deviation, allowing SAMIF to achieve the strict dimensional tolerances required by international pressure vessel standards.

Shortest Flat Ends

Utilizing Davi's all-rolls-drive technology and planetary guides, both the MAV and MCB allow plates to be pinched at the optimal tangent point. This achieves the shortest possible flat ends, significantly reducing material waste and post-bending trim times.

Multi-Sector Versatility

With the MCP angle rolls equipped with universal roll sets, SAMIF can rapidly switch production from standard flats and squares to complex channels and heavy beams, expanding their market reach from structural infrastructure to wind energy components.

Guaranteed Manufacturing Continuity

Backed by Davi’s 24/5 remote technical support and the patented Servo-Tronic roll parallelism system—which maintains mechanical-hydraulic synchronization even in the rare event of an electronic component failure—SAMIF maintains non-stop production schedules.

Engineering Heavy Industries Across the Middle East
SAMIF’s success in executing some of the Middle East’s most challenging heavy fabrication projects highlights the strength of this partnership. Davi’s specialized industrial expertise, combined with robust, ISO-certified Italian engineering, ensures that heavy steel fabricators can scale their operations with confidence. With over 11,000 spare parts in stock and a dedicated team of field engineers, Davi does not just deliver machinery; we secure long-term operational continuity for global industrial leaders.
